Entry of Biofouling Information Gets Even Easier!
An enhanced and smart Fleet management page for Vessel Managers ensures the loading of a fleet’s biofouling information is simple, intuitive and clear.
- Fleet Biofouling Data Capture Status - a fleet summary of how much biofouling information has been loaded onto Vessel-Check.
- Fleet Biofouling Risk - shows the number of vessels in a fleet in each risk category.
- Fleet table - a list of vessels in a fleet including last destination port, approval and data status, risk breakdown and overall risk. Embedded links and hover over pop-up comments guide vessel managers through the data loading process.
New Regulator Features
Flagged Vessel – allows regulators to flag vessel nominations for further actions and secure sharing of aquatic biosecurity information with other regulators, powerfully combined with AIS information. Flagged Vessel Help Documents

Dispersal Modelling Module
Utilising technology from DHI's "GlobalSEA Oilspill" and "PlumeCast applications", the dispersion scenario module will combine national and global MIKE models to hindcast and forecast potential affects or “zone of influence” of an Invasive Aquatic Species (IAS). This service will:
- provides scenario runs to aid in developing response plans, cleaning site selection, and an understanding of the effects of various environmental conditions.
- can be used to aid in-water clean planning, risk assessments and approvals.
- delivers user friendly, graphical, scientific evidence.
- helps guide management actions during and post event.
Forms Module
A simple way to push and pull data into and out of Vessel-Check.
- Allows regulators to upload their own forms for pre-population, completion and submission – all within Vessel-Check.
- Allow Vessel Managers to use the data in Vessel-Check for form completion, submission and management.
- Is designed specifically to work with marine arrival reporting systems and biosecurity forms.

Vessel-Check Origin
Like many solutions the cloud based Vessel-Check was created to solve a real world problem. In this case the Western Australian Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) needed to improve their assessment and management of aquatic biosecurity risks associated with vessel biofouling across their Ports. Biofouling is a key vector for the transfer of an Invasive Aquatic Species (IAS). It is also a growing global problem driven by many factors, and can potentially have devastating consequences. The scientists at DPIRD were familiar with DHI’s water modelling and decision support software as they are users of the MIKE 21, MIKE 3 and EcoLab products and reached out to their local office to discuss this challenging problem.
The expertise within the Aquatic Pest Biosecurity section of DPIRD helped create the logic behind the Vessel-Check risk calculation engine. Aligning with the IMO Guidelines, drawing on relevant research and their own local findings – DHI helped realise DPIRD's goal of creating a user friendly vessel biofouling management portal to aid vessels in identifying vessel management actions which can mitigate the risk of transferring an IAS.
